Does the end product match your original intentions?

Yes and no. My character I created was originally designed to be Viking character when first designed, and then edited to match my storyboard.

Is the end product appropriate for your intended audience?

Yes

Discuss the technical aspects of your work and highlight the strengths / areas to develop

Overtime I have learned a lot about 3D and how it works. I first played around with 3D Max at the start of the year and started just extruding different shapes out of just a box, then went onto things like a pendulum, then a house, etc.

I still have a lot to learn with 3D, there were many things that went wrong with this when I first started doing it.

Discuss the content / style of your work

Did you encounter any problems when creating the product? If so how were they resolved?

A lot of problem arose when I first started this, mainly just getting the rendering right when making the shapes for the body and legs. I resolved this by asking the teacher how to make and move them without screwing everything up.

What have you learnt from this experience?

3D is incredibly hard.

What skills have been developed throughout this process?

Drawing freehand and 3D modelling. I have also learned 3D animation and flash animation, how to make a timeline in 3D.

Did you meet the deadline?

No.

Did you have any problems with time management?

Yes.

If you had the opportunity to make this product again would you do anything different?

Probably handle my time better.

Are you happy with the overall product?

Yes.

Referring to the toolbar picture above, when an object is converted to an editable poly, it gives you a few extra options, each one has different powers.
The first icon lets you edit the vertexes, the second is the edges. Third button lets you edit the border of an object. The fourth and fifth button is the polygon and the elements.
Each button has the extrude option, but will let you extrude the titles named.

For example, to extrude a polygon in 3D, we click the 4th icon square to access the extrude button. Once the extrude menu is opened, press the extrude button as seen below.

Then select the part of your 3D model you want to extrude and drag it in or out, the same applies to other extrude options.

3D constraints

Having a high polygon count can crash Max, Max doesn’t like a model with too many polygons, having too many polygons increases the file size and slows down the rendering time when exporting the model into a video.
Limitations on a 3D file are generally quite high, high enough to give you the box model you want, but can’t handle an insane amount.

Mesh construction – Mesh is basically the start of 3D modelling using box modelling, cubes, pyramid or spheres. These objects can be displayed in wireframe to see through them and see where the objects meet the line if an animation is being constructed.
To convert an object to wireframe mode, I have included a screen shot of how to do this.

Right click Perspective > Wireframe

Application of 3D – is used in everyday life, such as disen hovers or on TV.

Displaying 3D polygon models – There are many ways to display a 3D polygon, using different settings and modes in Max, using the computer to do most of the work. This can be done using graphics acceleration card or openGL mode.
The basic object used in mesh modelling is a vertex, a point in three dimensional space. Two vertices connected by a straight line is called an edge. Three vertices, connected to the each other by three edges, is called a triangle, which is the simplest polygon in 3D space. More complex polygons can be created out of multiple triangles, or as a single object with more than 3 vertices. Four sided polygon and triangles are the most common shapes used in polygonal modelling. A group of polygons, connected to each other by shared vertices, is generally referred to as an element. Each of the polygons making up an element is called a face.
When using 3D max, max lets you change the graphics, either using a custom mode the user has set, but this is rare and you are able to switch between direct 3D and openGL.
